Race Tech Radio #4

Episode #4 - January 30, 2007

This week on the show:- 24h of Daytona - 2007 IndyCar Series Rules - Mario Andretti Special - Ferrari Closes Down London - Ford: Record Loss in 2006 - Windows Vista Test Drive - Google Earth 4 Released - Google Earth to get a Second Life? - Youtube to Share Revenues With Users - Diggnation in the GoDaddy Superbowl Ad

So Race Tech Radio #4 is now available for all! It was somewhat hard to find the time to produce this one:P This weekend was the australian open finals! The womans finals weren't all that great seeming that Sharapova took a beating. Williams was... unstoppable, unbelievably on her game that match! The mens finals on the other had was alot of fun. The first set was very close, the 2nd and 3rd is when Gonzalez started to wear down. Also over the weekend was The 24 Hours of Daytona. Sadly speeds coverage was total shit and I lost interest very quickly. Instead of playing the full 24 hours they thought people would rather watch MotoCross, Thrills Night at the local track, A1GP, and infomercials. A huge disappointment that they would rather show complete shit rather then one of the few races in the off-season. Oh how I wish there was an alternative! On the other hand David Hobbs did commentary for a few stints so that was great :P Kevin Rose and Alex Albrecht will be in the godaddy commercial for the superbowl. Godaddy has had a history of releasing risque commercials and finally one was tame enough to make the cut this year for the superbowl! It's the only reason why I will be watching the Superbowl this year, on the other hand it will be on youtube soon enough... I'll think about it :P Vista and Office were released and apparently there was a huge turn out at the release parties:O

Its out! And I gotta tell you... I wasn't too confident that we would be putting out an episode this week. I have had a really sore throat since Wednesday or so. To my surprise after taking a bunch of medications my throat felt great so I insisted on doing the show asap while my throat was feeling good. You can hear near the end of the show my voice starts to go :P In episode 3 of Race Tech Radio I talk a little bit about my favorite game of all time, which just so happens to be the Hitman Series. The thing that got me hooked on that game/series was the multiple ways to complete the levels. For instance you can run in with Ak's or you can silently kill the mail man, take his clothes, hide him in the dumpster and infiltrate as the mail man undetected. Tonnes of ways to do each and every level which rarely gets boring. A great series of games which is going to be turned into a film next year. Another movie due out in 08 is Driver which just so happens to be the runner-up on my favorite game of all time list. Another thing I announced on the show this week is that I am currently working on The Best of What The Hell?!? For those of you who don't know, WTH?!? was a popular show on RantRadio back in the late 90's. It was soon after the release of Shoutcast that Rant Radio started and one of their first shows was WTH?!? What the hell was a round table format show which started with just Drexoll and Cimmerian. Throughout the years the show picked up more people including Sean Kennedy, Unkle Dak, Girl On The Left, Enki, Medic, Chicken(saryet), ect. It was a great show which lasted for 2 and a half years. 3 hours every Sunday night at 6 pm :) That's a whole lot of audio to listen to and edit so don't expect the best of wth to be released for some time. Speaking of Rant Radio... Unkle Dak has highspeed Internet now! And will more then likely be posting often in the Rant Radio forums. Possibly try a blog again? The new issue of F1 Racing Magazine should be in the news stands now so I got to look around for that to see if it is as good as it appeared to be when I read the December issue. If so I will then subscribe to it :) Last magazine I subscribed to was a huge disappointment because it was rather old news. So old that it made me shake my head and wonder how they passed this issue off as the current months news in racing.

____________________________________________________________

Alright so it is out now! Episode 2 of Race Tech Radio is out for all to enjoy. Now that we have started it will continue to be weekly threw out the year :) So the iPhone was announced at Mac World Expo and... what a surprise. It caught just about everyone by surprise! Rumor after rumor, in development for 2 and a half years, working with 3 major companies, and still was a huge surprise to just about everyone! The phone by far exceeded our expectations. Now... like everything it too has its down sides. 4gig and 8gig, short battery life, no removable battery and no 3rd party app support. That's all I can think of! Now keep in mind this is first gen and will be changed over the years untill it's perfect. If you were to ignore the phone part of it and just use it for the other tools it is essentially a PocketMac! And let me tell you... it blows my pocketpc out of the water. I would take OSX over Windows Mobile 5 anyday! Now the Apple TV.... I'm not so excited about. I was excited when it was announced back in September but now not so much. You can't sit on your couch and download movies and music, you have to go to your computer buy them off of itunes, and then sync it. anyways the whole keynote is available on apple.com you can watch the whole thing (2 hours) or just the iPhone half. On a personal note... Today I was at Chapters which is a big book store throughout Canada. While looking at a few books about Ubuntu a guy came down the isle and started to talk to me about Ubuntu! It's rare to see someone that knows what Linux is never mind is running it as their main OS. It really showed me that Linux is no long just for the elite and is becoming more popular. Ubuntu, by far being the front runner and main contributor to Linux's success among the less tech savvy people that just want their computer to work. I can't quite remember who it was but someone on a TWIT podcast did their predictions for '07 and the person predicts that it will be an Operating System war like none other. He said that there will be 3 competitors this year. Those three being (Windows) Vista, (OSX10.5) Leopard, and (Ubuntu6.10)Edgy Eft. Don't get me wrong, Linux has came a long way in these past few years and last year being one of the most successful, I definantly see a future here! Now... is it this year? I'm not too sure about that... I just don't see Ubuntu being as popular as Windows in 2007. But I do believe that Ubuntu will be, by far the best OS of the 3 in '07. As for popularity I still think it's going to take a few years for Ubuntu to gain the status of being a house hold name. I don't think it will take too much longer seeming that Ubuntu jumped to the top of the charts very soon after its release back in '04.

SKTFM Back On The AirWaves!

So it was announced back on Monday that Sean Kennedy The Fucking Man will be coming back to the airwaves! As it turns out people are still donating to Sean because they love the content that he has created in the past and is still in rotation on the odd Internet radio station. So Sean is planning on doing a weekly newsreal! I don't believe it's going to have Cimm co-hosting but maybe he can work his way in there later down the line. I was a huge fan of newsreal untill Sean called it off to get back into military activities back in June. I hope that it turns back into a daily news show but thats just wishfull thinking. Hopfully this will get Cimm back in gear and we will start to see Patrolling released monthly like it once was... It has been about 7 months since the last Patrolling release. News Real will be on Rant Radio on Monday the 15th of January at 9AM PST. I am not too sure what other syndicates will be carrying Newsreal but I'm sure it won't take long for it to be on 10+ stations again. You can listen to all the things that Sean has put out in the past at at RantRadio.com. There are hours and hours of archives available there including WTH?!?, SKTFM.TV, Tales From The Afternow, Sean Kennedy Radio Show, ect. Awesome news Sean glad to have you back!

Convention Season

I don't know why but it is merely impossible to hit a dead line when working with Sir Yannick. I know it's not his fault everytime, but for the most part he did cause the delay indirectly. You see.. He has limited bandwidth over there and just so happened to use all of it up this past month. The weird thing is that the bandwidth... meter doesn't get refreshed untill the 15th. Anyways... He has now signed up for unlimited but I'm afraid it's too late :( So once again the show will be delayed untill next week. But he has assured me that once we start the show in '07 it will continue to be weekly from that point on, it's just the starting that is difficult :P Anyways expect that out next week. This week is CES and Mac World Expo! DL.TV will be bringing you 4 episodes straight from CES and Twit.tv will be brining you a few from Mac World Expo also Diggnation will be doing a live episode from Macworld but that wont be released untill the next week. I, personally am more excited to see what goes down at Mac World Expo... CES is a bunch of products that may hit the stores this year. Mac World Expo is what is here and now and what is up coming! What we expect to see at Mac World Expo this year is a new iPod Video(hopefully with a touch screen), The iTV which is pretty much a media center by Apple, An upgrade for OSX to compete with Vista, A new iTunes, and ofcourse the Apple Phone! The most important product for me is... the iPod Video... Yah you heard that right! I need a mobile device to watch video podcasts like revision 3 and dl.tv. Now... Alex Albrecht loves his Zune and I love the screen on the Zune! Apple has never really had the iPod for me because they... did so little that I could just as easily do with my pda but video is a different story, With my pda the battery drains too fast. So I need a device that will play podcasts and video podcasts and has a decent life span on the battery. Now... why not the Zune? From what I have heard its DRM managment is so heavy that its nearly useless. I don't buy music online so maybe that wont effect me... but if I were to ever buy music online it sure as hell wouldn't be from Microsoft. On the other hand I have always hated the fan fair that comes along with the ipod... We shall see what happens tomorrow at MacWorld. Don't forget that on Wednesday The Sopranos premiers on A&E! I will be watching... unlike Yannick for some reason :S I used to like watching The Sopranos when I had the chance, but i was never able to sit down and watch season 1-6. The crazy thing about this all is that A&E is going to be paying 2.5 million dollars per episode! anywho we will cover that on the next show. That is all for now :)
